Artell: "We Have Got To Be More Resilient"

Boss reflects on our defeat at Accrington

Boss Dave Artell couldn’t hide his disappointment after the Railwaymen suffered a 3-2 loss at Accrington Stanley this afternoon.

Before the break, Crewe produced one of their best performances under Artell to lead 2-0 at half-time but eventually left the Crown Ground empty handed.

Speaking to creweale.net  after the game, Artell was critical of the way his players couldn’t cope with Accrington after the break and says that is side must be more resilient.

Dave said:  “We played some great stuff in the first half and then we have got done from three set pieces in the second.

“They changed the way they played after the break and that upset us. We didn’t do what we were doing, we weren’t pressing and closing and the shift was massive. We stopped making the right decisions and that can’t happen. We have got to be more resilient as we almost beat ourselves. We were so deep and invited a lot of pressure.

“In the first half we were terrific but we were as poor in the second half as we were good in the first and that is massively disappointing.

“I’ve just said to the players that this can’t happen. If we have any ambition this can’t happen. When you are 2-0 up and controlling the game you have got to cope with whatever they throw at you and get the match won.”
