Artell: "Players Had The Belief To Comeback"

20 February 2017

Artell praises his sides desire after they fought back from 2-0 down to get a point at Blackpool.

David Artell says there was no ranting and raving from him at half-time as his Crewe Alexandra side somehow came in 2-0 down at Bloomfield Road. The Alex boss admits he asked his players to show more belief and to increase their energy levels slightly to make sure we took the game to the home side.

The Railwaymen excelled in the second half and deservedly salvaged a point with goals from Chris Dagnall and full-back Ollie Turton. Our second half revival could have been even more complete but for a good save from Sam Slocombe to deny our substitute Alex Kiwomya.

David told crewealex.net: “I didn’t think there was anything in the game in the first half and we ended up coming in 2-0 down. That is exactly what I told them. There was no ranting or raving.

“The only stern words we had were over the second goal because it was a typical Crewe goal to concede. I don’t want that to become an Achilles Heel, conceding goals from set-pieces and it’s something we have to stop.

He added: “I just felt there was more to come from us and that if we increased our energy and belief, then we get something from it. We showed it in the second half and from the 46th
minute onwards I felt there was only one team going to win it and we were 2-0 down at the time.”
