Artell: "I Want More Energy From Them"

17 January 2017

David Artell says sessions will be designed to make sure we play with higher intensity.

The new Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell wants his side to play with more energy after being encouraged by their first half display against Luton Town on Saturday. Crewe played with a greater intensity and took the lead through captain Ryan Lowe before the Hatters fought back to claim all three points.

Artell was encouraged with the first 45 minutes showing against the Hatters, but wants his Crewe side to produce that level of standard more often.

The Alex boss said: “I want us to play with higher energy levels and we know that it will take time. If we can produce the level of performance we did in the first half against Luton for longer then I’m sure we will get back to winning games and picking up points.

“They are a fit group of lads and they are all prepared to put a shift in but we need them to play with more intensity. Can they do it? That is the question and that is the challenge that is ahead of us.

“We will look to increase the intensity in training and test their threshold with the sessions we will be able to put on. They will work hard and the levels will increase.

David added: “We will work on Doncaster and how their strengths and weakness this week but it is also important that we work on ourselves and making sure we are ready to compete against a team that is at the top of our league.”
