Artell: "A Good Way To Finish"

6 May 2017

David Artell gives us his post match reaction following 4-1 final day win.

David Artell was a happy manager as his Crewe Alexandra side impressively defeated Barnet 4-1 mainly thanks to a superb hat-trick from Chris Dagnall.

The Alex striker took his own personal tally to 17 goals for the season and George Cooper rounded off his season with a 10th goal of the season with his final touch before being replaced by Charlie Kirk.

Following a superb 4-1 win the boss told the club’s official web-site: “I got what I wanted but I thought I got that last week if I’m honest but we lost. We played well but we lost. Today, we played well and got the result as well.

“There were some outstanding performances and I told them before the game that they can make this as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. We worked our socks off in both games and you see the difference. All credit to the players. They were terrific and now we go into the summer with a positive frame of mind.

“They will were all terrific and of course Dagnall has scored three goals, but his work rate and endeavour was top drawer as usual. He occupies defenders and his finishing is clinical, we know that.

“Akinde had a chance before half-time but after that they have scored a fantastic goal but that was it really. I thought we were the better team throughout and it was a good way to finish.

“We started well and had a shot after about 20 seconds that was deflected behind a corner. We revealed our hand but showed real intent. Right this is us. Last game of the season, so what? I wanted them to run their socks off and take the game to them.

He added: “We kept doing it and we did it until we were successful with the goals we scored. Now we have to do it on a more consistent basis. We all can be and if we can do it then we will be better.

Dagnall is 31, and is consistent and we need more to be like that. “
