Artell: "More Like It From Us"

14 March 2017

Dave Artell gives us his post match reaction from Crawley following great display.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell was delighted with his side’s really professional and vibrant performance at Crawley this evening. The Railwaymen deservedly enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win thanks to goals from James Jones via the penalty spot, a first goal for the club from Jordan Bowery and another from Chris Dagnall.

but when we play like that we look a decent side and we will win a lot more games. I thought that to a man they were terrific tonight and it could have been more. It could have been three at half-time and we could have scored five or six.  Artell told crewealex.net: “I said to them that the inconsistency drives me mad

“They hit the bar in stoppage time but we have restricted them to one real effort outside of the box all night and I am delighted with them. The front three were terrific. They worked their socks off and they helped us to get that clean-sheet with their work rate.

“We showed them parts of the Newport game because we will come up against that like again but it was in the past and we had to move on quickly. We picked them up and told them that a bad 45 minutes of football was not going to cost us the game at Crawley.

“Tonight, we have had another reaction and that was more like us. We were terrific on the ball and worked extremely hard when we didn’t have it.”

On the goals, the Crewe boss said: “James Jones has stepped up again and took his penalty really well again. We should have been two up by then so it was a massive goal for us and their keeper has a decent record of saving them, so it was a really good penalty.

“We told them to keep going in the second half and not stop playing their football. That was the difference from Saturday. They kept playing and kept getting their success from that.

“We scored two great goals and I am delighted for Jordan. Strikers are judged on goals and he knows he had to add them to his game, but he has been terrific for us. He is judged on a lot of things and he helps us be effective in the final third. He works his socks off for us and runs so hard up there. He helps create goals and chances for others and he deserves his goal tonight. We are all pleased for him.

“As we are for Daggers. He has come back into the team and led by example. They are both fantastic team players.

“The back four were excellent, they all were and it’s a great win for us.

Dave added: “The fans that have travelled down here were fantastic. There were not that many in the corner, but they made some real noise for us, they cheered, sang and clapped and made a difference again. I am sure the result and performance makes it a more pleasant trip home for them.”
