Artell: "The Confidence Came Flooding Back Today"

11 February 2017

David Artell gives us his post match action reaction following majestic display

He added: "We know the areas we have to work on, the unity and the confidence and when Callum scored his first ever goal, the players all went to him to celebrate. That is what it is all about. We are making those  steps we have been looking for. To win 50 is  a big step to the confidence returning."

"George was very good and we all know what a good player he is. We have been wanting even more from him and he delivered again today. He has got that little bit different from everyone else and when he tries a lob like that in virtually in his own half with his weaker foot, that tells you all you need to know about George Cooper. It was a tremendous effort. He had a terrific game but then they all did.

"Daggers is a box player and we have been on to him to run in behind and get in the box. He did that more often today and he has got his rewards. Jordan provides the flick-ons and Dagnall and Coops have scored some great goals for us today. When your striker scores two you are delighted and I am.

"I've told them afterwards that they have set the standard. They were all better than their opponent today and we dominated. Our front three were superior to their back three. We won our battles and I thought Jordan Bowery was excellent. He gave us a real platform up there and that allows the Coopers and the Dagnalls to get the plaudits.

"They have been used to not winning games and having the criticism that comes with that, but that's changed. We believe in them and we know they are good players. There were some top drawer performances out there, I couldn't pick one out really.

A delighted Artell told the club's official web-site: "It was a magnificent performance from us and the performance was there. I thought it was there against Cheltenham to be fair in the last game and it didn't quite go for us. It did today. We have working on their belief and confidence since I came into the job, and it all came flooding back today.

Artell was full of praise for his players as the club scored five goals for the first time since defeating Hartlepool by the same score line on our return to League One in 2012.

David Artell has every right to celebrate his first ever win as a professional manager after his Crewe Alexandra clicked into gear to record a superb 5-0 win over Grimsby Town. George Cooper and Chris Dagnall both scored twice in the first half and the excellent Callum Cooke added a fifth close to the end of the game.
