Artell: "We Were Far Better But It Was A Point Each"

28 January 2017

Dave Artell gives us his post-match reaction from Cheltenham draw

"The window is coming up on Tuesday and we will be working hard over the next few days. We will be working every hour. It is my wife's birthday tomorrow, so I might have half an hour off tomorrow but I know that one or two faces would give us a lift."

"We can improve but I was pleased with them and it is a step in the right direction. It is something to build on.

"We were dogged and resilient in our defending and restricted them to only a handful of chances. I didn't think Ben had a lot to do. We have played a rival in the table and we were far better than them but at the end of the day it was a point apiece and I know Gary (Johnson) will be far happier with it than us.

"We matched them up in the formation and I did that because I think we have better players and they have shown that today. We just couldn't find that goal that our efforts deserved. I think the fans saw their effort and commitment. If we can show that level of performance and repeat it week in week out, then that gives us hope for the run-in. We just have to work on the finishing and we will be working hard on that over the next week.

David Artell told the club's official web-site: "I thought we were good. I thought the tactics were spot on and we did everything apart from score today. We created a large number of chances but we just lacked that quality to finish one or two of them off. They all worked hard and I thought we deserved to win the game.

Crewe deserved the three points this afternoon, going close on numerous occasions and seeing Alex Kiwomya strike the post after replacing Charlie Kirk in the second half.

Following the goalless draw with Cheltenham Town at Gresty Road, Alex boss David Artell was pleased with his side's display despite us unable to find a deserved winner. Artell was encouraged with the commitment of his players and says that everything was right bar the finishing.
