Powell: ‘Prep for Bradford trip starts now’

22 August 2023

Jack Powell is looking forward to a productive week on the training ground after bagging his first Crewe Alexandra goal.

The summer signing popped up with an injury-time equaliser against Walsall to earn The Railwaymen a third 2-2 draw of the season.

Powell left it late to open his account but his 94th minute goal was worth the wait after he whipped in a magnificent delivery which beat everyone and found the net.

Now the Alex have a free week to prepare for the trip to Bradford City (Saturday, 3pm).

He said: “It’s been pretty relentless – it always is at the start of a season – so this will be a good opportunity to get some rest and get ready for a big game next week.

“We’ll work hard on the training ground and implement another game plan going into Bradford. We will also hone in on the things we pride ourselves in, with and without the ball.”

He added: “Some might say it was a bit of luck getting the goal but I think it was a good ball.

“The lads have run across it and it’s one of them that sneaks in the back post, so I’m pleased with that.”

Crewe have found themselves 2-0 down three times already this season. Although they have battled back to earn a point on each occasion, Powell acknowledged that they need to start games better and perform in both halves.

He said: “We are really keen to put together a 90-minute performance.

“We want to put on a performance where we have two halves of football that we’re pleased with.

“We’re yet to do that in a league game – there has been spells where we have looked good but we are really striving to put together two halves and I’m sure positive results – wins - will come from that.”
