Artell: "Looking For That Desire & Application In Tonight's Friendlies"

23 July 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell wants all his players to approach tonight’s double header friendlies with a professional attitude. The boss will split his squad into two for the trips to Whitchurch and Bala Town and he is looking for another useful 90 minutes as part of our pre-season preparations.

Most of his squad are expected to get 90 minutes under their belts with only centre-half Olly Lancashire missing through injury. The former Swindon Town captain has a slight groin strain.

Ahead of tonight’s double fixtures, the boss told us: “It will be another useful 90 minutes for the players this evening. It will be about the players getting back out on the pitch and getting some game time into the legs.

“I want them to approach the two games in the right manner and if they do that then we will get what we want out of it. It is about building up that match fitness in readiness for the first game of the season.

“Every game in pre-season will be different and it will be the same this evening. I’m sure we will probably have more of the ball than we did against Burnley, so we will be looking to be more of a threat in the final third and it will be a good test of their desire and application.”
